Paul Walker’s Wolud Like to Bringing Back His Fast & Furious Character

Paul Walker’s character could return to the Fast & Furious franchise through digital effects and the help of his family.

The actor tragically died in November 2013 in a car crash, which led to Universal Pictures postponing production of Furious 7. His younger brothers, Cody and Caleb, stepped in to help complete the film, with Paul Walker’s face digitally superimposed onto their bodies. That permitted fitting tribute to his character Brian O’Conner at the end of the film, which depicted him driving off into the sunset.

With the character still alive in the Furious universe, there were questions about what would be done going forward, and whether Walker’s family would still be open to his involvement.

While promoting the documentary I Am Paul Walker, Caleb Walker confirmed he’d be happy to keep his brother’s likeness in future films. “I just hope we get to — I don’t know — have a little cameo and bring Paul back to save the day and I get to help create that again,” he told The Associated Press. “That’s my dream and I hope we get to do that in one of the future movies.”

“I think there could potentially be a way to do it,” Cody Walker added. “But it would take a lot of thought and it’d have to be tasteful. It would have to be tasteful. He was the real deal, the real car guy. And in his absence, I — you know — I think it’s lost its way in a big way.”

The brothers admit they have not watched Furious 7 since attending its premiere in 2015. Both have since become fathers and say they are waiting for the right time to introduce the movies to their children.

Paul Walker, 40, was a passenger in a Porsche Carrera GT when the driver lost control of the car, hitting several trees at more than 100 miles per hour before the vehicle burst into flames. Both he and the driver, friend and fellow racing enthusiast Roger Rodas, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Both Fast & Furious 9 and 10 are rumored to be heading toward production, with 9 purportedly heading for release in 2020. An unnamed spinoff film featuring Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson is scheduled to debut in July 2019.
